Jeremiah Bergan

Jeremiah is currently a social studies Teacher in the Greece Central School District. He has taught 3rd-7th grade in inclusive co-teaching classrooms. He joined the RACSS board in the Spring of 2014 and currently represents Rochester as a reviewer on the New York State Social Studies Toolkit Project.

Melissa Mawn

Melissa was a long-time social studies educator in the East Irondequoit School District and is now currently enjoying a well-deserved retirement!  

Terry McCarthy
Vice President for Programming

Terry is the K-12 Director of Social Studies and LOTE at the Webster Central School District. Terry started his career as a high school social studies teacher in Newfane, NY, teaching both Global and US. He joined the RACSS board in 2013 and also serves on the New York State Social Studies Supervisors Association Board.

Stephen LaMorte
Vice President for Membership

Steve LaMorte has been a middle and high school social studies teacher, an instructional coach, and administrator in the Rochester City Schools. A member of the RACSS Board since 2010, Steve represents RACSS on the executive board of the New York State Social Studies Supervisory Association (NYS4A) and is Past President of the New York State Council for the Social Studies.  He serves on the New York State Education Department's Social Studies Content Advisory Panel and is currently the Executive Director of Social Studies in the Rochester City School District.  

Steve Schockow

Steve has taught Grade 7 social studies in West Irondequoit since 1998 and serves as the Dake Junior High School Social Studies Contact Teacher. Steve has been honored as the New York State Middle School Social Studies Teacher of the Year in 2008 by the NYSCSS and received the same honor from RACSS in 2007. Steve has served in a number of leadership capacities, including 12 years as a Catholic School Principal, President of West Irondequoit Teachers' Association and as the RACSS Vice President for Membership from 2004 until 2010.
